Stationary Exercise Bikes
One of the most widely used machines for working out are exercise bikes. They serve the function to workout and move all the muscles of the back and legs of the user.
The resistance on the exercise bike is adjustable. You can adjust it to your desire and needs, the intensity can be from gentle to more rigorous. It is also versatile to serve the different requirement of the user. It is not only the intensity which can be adjusted but also the position. It can be shift to a more forward leaning position, upright or the recumbent position.
Always remember to consult your doctor or health professional before engaging in any physical activity. This is to ensure your safety and the program which fits you. One way to determine the right program and prevent injuries is with determining your optimal heart rate. The health professionals are also to know the correct posture and resistance needed and to determine the potential problems that you might encounter while engaging in physical activities.
A patient is required to start slowly and then the intensity and resistance gradually increases depending on the capability and body's reaction to the activity. It is important to raise the heart rate of the patient from 60-85% of the maximum heart rate of the patient. Take note that the programs should be executed for three (3) times a week for at least twenty (20) minutes each program.
An exercise bike is a good choice for those who would like to workout at home. Not only does it require a small space but there are also models which are collapsible so that you can just store or set them aside when not in use, occupying only a small space for storage.
Exercise bikes offer many other benefits. They are not that expensive, the price depends on the additional features it includes. They are effective for those people with back ailments especially those with osteoarthritis and spinal stenopsis. They are made for strengthening the muscle groups on the back, legs, calf, hamstrings, back of thigh and also the muscles on the abdomen. Not only that, exercise bikes also help in improving the flexibility of the ligaments and muscles. As a matter of fact, it can even help in the range of movements of muscle that can otherwise develop into stiffness and spasms. Aside from developing the muscles, exercise bikes can also lessen the stresses of the muscles found at the lower parts of the back and also promote the circulation in the body and help in the cardiovascular health.
If you don't have the access to exercise bikes, you can also use the ordinary bicycle. You just have to do some adjustments, you need to mount the bike on a trainer (it is only cheap and is easy to install and can be purchased at bicycle retailers). In this set up, the rear wheel of the bike is raised and this can already be used as a stationary bike.
